1920s Concho Belt
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Antique Navajo Second Phase concho belt featuring a heavy sand-cast silver buckle and oval silver conchos mounted on an early dark leather belt. The buckle has a classic openwork form with radiating stamped fan elements and hooked ends, while the conchos are decorated with scalloped edges, repoussé centers, stamped borders, and central diamond forms. The leather shows age-related surface cracking, darkening, and wear throughout, consistent with its early period and use, while the silver has an attractive old patina.
The conchos are mounted to the leather with tabs on the reverse, reflecting traditional construction and wearability. This is a strong early Navajo concho belt with a desirable Second Phase format, period leather, and a substantial sand-cast buckle.
