20-Strand Mediterranean Coral Necklace with a Sterling Silver and 14k Gold “First Woman” Pendant made by Phillip Honanie in 1977.

This striking necklace features twenty strands of natural Mediterranean coral beads, finished with custom 14k gold cones and an adjustable linked clasp. At its center hangs a bold 14k gold on sterling silver pendant depicting First Woman, a foundational figure in Hopi cosmology who, alongside First Man, led the emergence of the Hopi people into this world. She represents the origin of life, balance, and sacred partnership—an enduring symbol of creation and continuity in Hopi belief. The stylized figure is rendered in Honanie’s signature geometric overlay style and anchored by a vivid Mediterranean coral cabochon.

Created in 1977 by award-winning Hopi artist Phillip Honanie (1950–2017), this piece is signed with Honanie’s hallmark, the Kopavi shopmark, and stamped 14k and sterling. It exemplifies Hopi goldwork and reflects Honanie’s ability to merge sacred symbolism with modernist design. This piece is featured on page 34 of Hopi Gold Hopi Silver by Zena Pearlstone, highlighting its significance.

Part of the historic Kopavi Collection, this necklace has never been previously owned.
