Hopi Bear Paw Buckle

Sterling silver western-style belt buckle featuring a Hopi overlay design of a bear paw. Within the paw are symbolic elements including a healing hand, prayer feathers, a friendship symbol, and a ceremonial shrine.

This buckle was designed by Phillip Honanie, but after a stroke left him unable to continue silversmithing, his close friend and fellow Hopi artist Merle Namoki executed the piece using Phillip’s original design. In recognition of their collaboration, the back of the buckle is signed by both artists along with the Kopavi hallmark.

Part of the historic Kopavi Collection, this belt buckle has never been previously owned.
