Delbridge Honanie was born in 1946 in Winslow Arizona. He grew up on the Second Mesa Hopi village of Shungopavi. Delbridge attended the Phoenix Indian Day School, and later the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe.
He was of the Bear Clan. When he was initiated into the Hopi Men’s Society, he received his Hopi name Coochsiwukioma, which means Falling White Snow.
Delbridge considered himself to be a painter, a sculpture, a Kachina doll carver, and above, all a teacher. As an artist and teacher, Delbridge spent much of his life sharing his skills and vision with other, in particular with young people from all walks of life. Delbridge was passionate about educating people to the values and life of the Hopi people.
His work appeared internationally in museums and galleries including Arizona State University, the Institute of American Indian Art, The Museum of Northern Arizona, and the United States Department of the Interior building.
In 2006 he was honored as one of the Arizona Indian Living Treasures.
He passed away in 2017.
