Hopi Polychrome Jar
Tribe: Hopi
Hand-coiled Hopi pottery jar by Donella Tom Zacarias Nampeyo, daughter of noted Hopi potter Jean Sahmie and part of the Nampeyo family lineage. The vessel features a low, wide form with an open mouth and is decorated in a classic Sikyatki-revival design, with interlocking bird wing and feather motifs. The composition is built from sweeping curved panels filled with fine crosshatching, tight linear work, and stylized feather elements in black over a natural tan slip, accented with muted red. The precision, symmetry, and rhythmic movement of the design reflect the strong continuation of the Nampeyo tradition. Traditionally hand-coiled, hand-painted, and traditionally fired with a smooth matte finish. Signed on the underside.
