1880s Late Classic Serape Blanket
Tribe: Navajo (Diné)
Late Classic Navajo serape blanket, circa 1880s, woven with handspun wool and featuring a bold red ground accented by stepped diamond motifs and serrated elements. The design is organized around a central vertical axis with repeating diamonds framed in indigo-dyed blue, ivory, gray, and golden yellow, creating strong visual rhythm and symmetry. Indigo is used for the dark blue elements throughout. Condition shows scattered small holes, areas of wear, and a broken edge cord, consistent with age and original use.
