The Pilot Mountain Turquoise mine is located in Mineral County, Nevada, east of the town of Mina. Originally discovered in the early 1900s, it began as a copper claim and later became known as one of Nevada’s productive turquoise mines. Pilot Mountain has been worked in different periods over the years and is still known as a small but important source of natural turquoise.
Pilot Mountain turquoise ranges from bright blue to blue-green and darker green tones, often with brown, black, or reddish matrix. Some of the best stones from the mine show strong webbing and excellent hardness, allowing them to take a high polish. The mine is also known for producing unusually varied material, with some stones showing multiple shades in a single cut, which adds to its appeal among collectors and jewelry makers.
