Norman Woody est né à Tucson en Arizona et réside maintenant à Dilkon, en Arizona. Son père était un charpentier accompli et sa mère une tisseuse de beaux tapis Navajo. Certaines relations incluent Billy Betoney (oncle), Jack Tom, Steven Begay, Thomas Curtis et David Lister.

Il a commencé à fabriquer des bijoux à 21 ans, enseigné par son beau-frère, Tommy Singer. Il est connu pour ses ours et ses buffles.
